SYA currently belongs to the Consulting Engineers Council of Hawaii, the American Public Works Association, and the Hawaii Water Environment Association.

Its engineers are licensed to practice engineering professionally in the States of Hawaii and California, and in Guam.

SYA received the Grand Conceptor Award for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement from the Hawaii Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Honor Award from the Consulting Engineers Council (CEC) of Hawaii for its innovative use of trenchless technology to rehabilitate the large and only sewer trunk-line for east Honolulu. The pipes and manholes were installed four decades ago in areas that are now fully developed with high-priced homes, a major hotel, a world renown golf course that host the annual Hawaiian Open, and an affluent condominium complex. The alignment places it in backyards of homes, in beach areas, and along the beach side of the hotel, golf course, and condominium properties. The pipes are in ground water with the ocean being over parts of it at high tides. Other constraints affecting the design were, the work area lacked access and work space, the offshore waters and beaches were environmentally sensitive, the close proximity of homes, swimming pools, walls, buildings, and the landscape plantings exposed them to potential settlement and damages, and the presence of major cracks, spalls, and the corrosion that could cause parts of the line to collapse during repairs. To further hamper SYA's work, businesses had to be maintained, tourists, guests, and residents at the hotel and condominiums could not be disturbed, and the surrounding neighborhoods and public were sensitive to construction disturbances. Yet in spite of these constraints and the effects of a major hurricane that happened during the repair work, the project was finished ahead of schedule. The project's outcome is the direct result of SYA's design and coordination efforts which also involved the community.
